Marcelo Souza is Urbis et Orbis Gem Trade Consulting’s Managing Director. Marcelo is a Brazilian national who holds a Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Marcelo also completed the Rough Diamond Program at the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School in Johannesburg, South Africa, and attended the Rough Diamonds Grading and Sorting program at the American Institute of Diamond Cutting. In addition, Marcelo holds an MBA in International Business from the University of Arizona, where he focused his studies on International Business Development, Distribution, and Trade.
Marcelo speaks Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and has working knowledge of French and Thai. Marcelo maintains solid business relationships with gem cutters and brokers worldwide, but specially in Bangkok, Thailand. Besides being a proud member of the GIA Alumni Association, Marcelo is also a member of the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), and of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT).
